He served two terms in the City Council, where he authored and passed landmark tenant protections, including the nation’s first Right to Counsel law, guaranteeing legal representation to tenants facing eviction.
In 2022, Mark began his term as Manhattan Borough President. In this role, he identified opportunities to deliver tens of thousands of new housing units, and advanced policies to expand affordable housing. He also launched initiatives to deploy millions of dollars in low-interest loans for small businesses, improve the city’s mental health system, enhance street mobility, and strengthen the city’s climate change preparedness.
Mark assumed office as New York City Comptroller on January 1, 2026.
