Jessica S. Tisch was appointed the 48th police commissioner of the City of New York in November 2024. Tisch previously served as commissioner of both the New York City Department of Sanitation and the New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT).

Prior to joining DoITT, Tisch spent the majority of her public-service career at the New York City Police Department, beginning there in 2008 as a counterterrorism analyst. Tisch eventually rose to become deputy commissioner of the Information Technology Bureau, where she spearheaded efforts to use technology to transform how NYPD officers responded to 911 calls, took crime reports, and searched for wanted or missing persons. She also managed the development and implementation of the flagship Domain Awareness System. Under her leadership, every officer was equipped with a smartphone, putting critical, real-time information in the field where it was needed most. Tisch also managed the implementation of the NYPD’s body-worn camera program and drove efforts to modernize and improve CompStat.

Commissioner Tisch is a graduate of Harvard College, Harvard Law School, and Harvard Business School, and is a lifelong New Yorker.
